Welcome to New Bedford High!

From 1909-1971, the school was located on County Street, facing straight down William Street on land that once was occupied by the estate of Charles W. Morgan, of whaling fame. The building currently serves as the New Bedford Public School's administrative offices.

Since 1972, New Bedford High School has been located at 230 Hathaway Boulevard. NBHS is the sole public high school for the city. With a student enrollment of approximately 2,400 students in grades 9-12, it is one of the largest high schools in Massachusetts.

We are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) with graduates moving on to some of the finest colleges and universities across the country. Our school is rich with pride, tradition, and equally committed to new ideas that will help prepare our students for the future and the demands of the 21st century.

The school’s mascot is the “whale” and students are referred to as “whalers,” a tribute to the city's long and rich whaling history. Crimson red and white are the school colors that represent the "whaler pride." New Bedford High School participates in Division 1 athletics, the largest and most competitive athletics pision in Massachusetts.
